James Lovsin is a partner with McDonnell Boehnen Hulbert & Berghoff LLP. He concentrates his practice on intellectual property matters, including patent litigation, patent and trademark preparation and prosecution, and counseling. His litigation experience also relates to trade secrets, trade dress, trademarks, and copyrights.
Mr. Lovsin is a licensed attorney in state courts of Illinois and federal courts in Chicago, Milwaukee, and Washington D.C. He has litigated intellectual property cases in these federal courts and the federal court in Delaware. Mr. Lovsin is also a registered patent attorney with the United States Patent & Trademark Office. He has prepared and/or prosecuted over 85 U.S. patent applications and assisted with prosecution of corresponding foreign applications.
Mr. Lovsin received a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, with departmental honors, from Northwestern University and a J.D., summa cum laude, from the University of Illinois College of Law. Prior to attending law school, he worked for ExxonMobil Refining & Supply Company as an engineer at the Joliet Refinery. Prior to entering private law practice, he served as a law clerk to the Honorable Pauline Newman of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.
While Mr. Lovsins office is located in Chicago, he lives in Lake County and is available to meet with clients there.
